Breast Reduction Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of breast reduction surgery?

We understand the emotional impact that having excessively large breasts can have on a woman. We want you to feel comfortable in your own skin, and we can help you achieve a breast size that is proportional to the rest of your body.

During your personal consultation, we will walk you through the procedure and inform you of what you need to know to make the best decision for you.

How do I prepare for Breast Reduction Surgery?

Before the procedure, your surgeon will discuss the various aspects of breast reduction surgery.

Once you determine an appropriate breast size, we can perform the surgery.

What should I expect during breast reduction surgery?

To begin, an incision will be created. Depending on how much reduction is required, different incisions may be used.

More extensive lifting will typically require an incision that circles the areolas and continues down the breast. This allows us to remove excess skin and breast tissue, as well as tighten the breast to a firm and lifted position.

The incision method we use will depend on the size of your breasts and your end goal. Usually the procedure lasts about 2-3 hours.

Once your surgeon is finished with your breast reduction, they will close the incisions, drains will be placed for a short period of time, and you will begin your recovery.

What should I expect after my breast reduction surgery?

While experiences vary, women typically need about a week to recover from a breast reduction.

After surgery, you will be given a surgical bra to wear to help your breasts maintain their new shape.

When can I return to exercise after breast reduction?

Most women can resume exercise about 4 weeks after their procedure.

What is the Breast Lift recovery timeline?

One day after surgery: Expect bruising and swelling. Ensure you sleep on your back during your recovery period. You may shower, but not take a bath. For the next week, rest, hydrate, eat healthy foods, and avoid bending or lifting anything over five pounds.

After one week: Surgical dressings are removed. Any necessary drains are removed. However, you will need to continue to wear a surgical bra. Expect moderate bruising and swelling to continue, but you can return to work and perform light daily activities if you are comfortable.

After two weeks: By this time, you will feel more comfortable and may feel back to normal. However, continue to avoid vigorous activity or exercise.

After four to six weeks: By this time, most patients are healed enough to resume strenuous exercise, sleep facing down, and wear your usual bra.

When can I exercise after a breast lift?

You may resume light walking after one week. Wait 4-6 weeks to continue rigorous exercise.

Can health insurance cover breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgeries are not covered by all insurance companies unless the procedure is deemed medically necessary.
