What’s the Difference?
Labiaplasty
is a procedure that is largely cosmetic. It’s typically performed to reduce the size or asymmetry of the labia minora–the “inner lips” of the vulva. For many women, elongated or uneven labia minora can be a source of emotional or physical discomfort. This is a relatively minor procedure with a high rate of patient satisfaction.
Perineoplasty
is a procedure that improves the quality of the perineal muscles. The surgery uses a special V-shaped incision to tighten the perineal muscles, leading to a “tighter” vagina and improved sexual sensation. There is some evidence that perineoplasty can improve some conditions such as occasional incontinence.
Vaginoplasty
is an internal tightening operation designed to decrease the diameter of the vaginal vault as well as elevate the posterior wall to enhance contact with the anterior vaginal wall during intercourse.
