A breast lift is a surgical procedure to restore the breasts after the effects of age, weight loss, pregnancy or other factors have caused the breasts and nipples to sag and droop. A breast lift procedure helps lift and rejuvenate by removing sagging skin and tightening the surrounding breast tissue. This surgery gives women renewed self-esteem by restoring the firm, perky breasts and aesthetic appearance again.
Each breast lift procedure is designed to address a patient’s unique patterns of aging, sagging and volume loss. However, breast lift patients typically have:
We will listen carefully to your goals for breast lift surgery at your personal consultation. If we determines you are a good candidate for a breast lift, we will collaborate with you to establish a surgery plan for the creation of your ideal breasts. Some women who undergo breast augmentation revision surgery to replace older implants may combine the procedure with a breast lift.
A breast lift provides a number of benefits for patients who would like to regain the perky bounce of their breasts:
Your breast lift procedure begins with your surgeon making the incisions. They use multiple types of incisions, including circumareolar, anchor, and what’s known as a “lollipop incision,” which encircles the areola and descends vertically down the breast. This allows them to remove excess tissue and skin, and lift and reshape the breast. We often reduces enlarged areolas at the same time to match the more youthful contours of the breasts.
For some women who wish to increase the size of their breasts, we may perform this procedure in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Your surgeon will bandage your chest and wrap it in a compression garment after your procedure. This will allow your breasts to retain their newly youthful appearance. While experiences vary, most women will need to take about a week off of work. After this time, patients commonly resume their daily routines. However, your surgeon will likely advise you to avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for several weeks.
One day after surgery: Expect bruising and swelling. Ensure you sleep on your back during your recovery period. You may shower, but not take a bath. For the next week, rest, hydrate, eat healthy foods, and avoid bending or lifting anything over five pounds.
After one week: Surgical dressings are removed. Any necessary drains are removed. However, you will need to continue to wear a surgical bra. Expect moderate bruising and swelling to continue, but you can return to work and perform light daily activities if you are comfortable.
After two weeks: By this time, you will feel more comfortable and may feel back to normal. However, continue to avoid vigorous activity or exercise.
After four to six weeks: By this time, most patients are healed enough to resume strenuous exercise, sleep facing down, and wear your usual bra.
You may resume light walking after one week. Wait 4-6 weeks to continue rigorous exercise.
Typically, yes. If you were able to breastfeed before your breast lift, it is highly likely you will be able to do so afterward.
Breast lifts are not covered by all insurance companies unless the procedure is deemed medically necessary.
Breast lift results last for 10-15 years, although for some, the results may last much longer.
